Makeup Brush Cleaners

Has there ever been a task as daunting as cleaning your makeup brushes?

It’s just soo.. tedious. mundane. soul-destroying.  Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic. But really, it is boring.

What I really hate about it though, is how long it can take for them to all dry afterwards. I’ve actually bought two of a few of my favorite brushes so that I always have a back up.

I’ve actually gotten so lazy with my brushes that I’ve actually used my blending brush to apply eye shadow. 😂 the struggle is real.

I don’t think so. Aside from cleaning and organizing my vanity, I pretty much loathe cleaning my brushes. Which, by the way, is pretty awful because cleaning your makeup brushes is so important for the overall health of your skin, life of your brushes and application of your makeup.

When I’m doing a one on one consultation, I always talk about how important cleaning your brushes is, yet I don’t always follow my own advice. As much as I hate to admit it, I do not clean them once a week as I should. In fact I think it’s probably time I get to cleaning again. Maybe I’ll make a video.

Until now.

For years I’ve been washing my brushes on the back of my hand with a touch of gentle baby shampoo. Semi recently though, I won a Sigma Brush Cleaning Express Mit from one of my beautiful y-sisters and I will never go back to my hand again.

This thing is so amazing and so easy to use. I mean, really easy to use. It is definitely a highly recommended product. A Must Have.

Actual Brush Cleaning solution on the other hand, I’m still struggling with. I feel like I have tried so many and I’m not happy with any of them.

First I tried a cheap brush cleaner from E.l.f and it was all right. It was more of an in between deep cleaning brush spray to help keep your brushes from getting too dirty or for a quick spritz and change colors type situation. For some reason though, all brush cleaning sprays like this have mass amounts of perfume in them. I just can’t. The perfumes really irratate my skin which I just can’t have. Especially when I’m using it on brushes that I’m using on my eyes. That skin is already extremely delicate and sensitive, I don’t need to any extra irritation there.

I also tried a brush cleaning spray from Japonesque but it was also scented and it did the exact same thing as the E.L.F stuff. It was rose water scented so I assumed that it wouldn’t bother my eyes, but it did.

So back to square one with the brush cleaners. I’ve used a gentle shampoo for basically ever and will continue to do so until I can find the right cleanser for my poor brushes. I started out using a mild baby shampoo but I received a sample of this Fekkai shampoo and conditioner so I decided to try the shampoo out on my brushes and its worked pretty well.

I’m open to trying new products for brush cleaning but I just don’t even know where to start. I suppose bloglovin would point me I’m the right direction.

Maybe I’ll do a blog search.  😊😊

What do you use to clean your makeup brushes?

Do you have a spary for in between deep cleaning?

Let me know!
